The Rasmus Firm is a litigation firm founded Jan. 1, 1998, by
Sherry Rasmus, attorney and counselor at
law. Since being licensed in 1986, Rasmus has become a successful
trial attorney, with experience that encompasses a very broad practice involving both tort and commercial litigation.
She has established a reputation as a formidable opponent in the courtroom and is well-known at the courthouse for her trial abilities.
As an advocate, Rasmus represents clients tenaciously without forgetting the importance of integrity, honor and professionalism. Recognized as a prominent trial attorney, Rasmus believes in the jury process. But because what is best for clients is foremost, she acknowledges the value of alternative dispute resolution. Rasmus has undergone basic training as a mediator and continues to promote the process as a useful method of resolving disputes in both her capacities – as an attorney-advocate and as a neutral mediator of disputes. The mission of The Rasmus Firm is, first, to provide competent legal representation. Litigation is a stressful experience for clients, no matter how sophisticated they may be. The Firm hopes that at the conclusion of a case, the client will know that his interests were well-served and protected under the law. The Rasmus Firm is fortunate to have a support system of experienced individuals who care about clients and work hard to respond to their needs.
Jean Kelly, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin School of
Law with her Doctor of Juris Prudence in May 2004. Prior to
receiving her J.D. she clerked with The Rasmus Firm. She has been an Associate with the Firm since being licensed in the
state of Texas in November 2004. Ms. Kelly earned her
undergraduate degree from Rice University graduating in 2001, cum laude.
Ms.Kelly's legal practice is in the general practice areas offered by The Rasmus Firm. She assists Ms. Rasmus in litigation matters and is a competent and effective legal researcher and writer. She also counsels clients in probate matters. Ms. Kelly is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Austin Young Lawyer's Association. Amanda Ortiz came to The Rasmus Firm with several years of experience as a legal assistant. She has assumed those responsibilities and additionally, that of the office manager for The Rasmus Firm. She is fluent in Spanish and has been invaluable in assisting our Spanish-speaking clients. The Rasmus Firm has been designated by the City of Austin as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) and a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) adhering to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) DBE standards set forth in 49 CFR Part 26 and Part 23. The Rasmus Firm has also received designation as a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB).
