Sherry was born in Charleston, Illinois but spent less than two weeks there before returning to an Army post in Missouri with her mother and father. Her father spent more than 22 years in the Army, and Sherry spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Europe.

Upon her father’s retirement, the family settled in El Paso where Sherry graduated from Andress High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10% of her class.

She enrolled at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1979 and was a scholarship recipient. While attending undergraduate school, Sherry was the President of the American Marketing Association at UTEP. She received her B.B.A. in Marketing in 1982.

Sherry was accepted to law school at Texas Tech School of Law in 1983 and graduated with her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1986. While at Texas Tech School of Law, Sherry was a member of several moot court teams competing on a statewide and national basis. She was a finalist at the Benton Moot Court Competition sponsored by John Marshall School of Law in Chicago and an Octa-finalist at the National Moot Court Competition in New York City. Sherry was vice-chair of the Board of Barristers and one of only a handful of law students awarded the Order of Barristers.

After graduation from law school in May of 1986 and licensure as an attorney in the state of Texas in June, 1986, Sherry joined Bankston, Wright & Greenhill in their litigation section. In 1994, she was elected shareholder and remained with the firm until she established The Rasmus Firm in 1998.

Her practice continues to include litigation in complicated tort cases involving premises liability, personal injury, sexual exploitation and assault, sexual harassment and other employment law issues.   She now provides legal services in probate and estate planning.  Sherry is active in promoting alternative dispute resolution and has received the necessary  training as a mediator.  Also, Sherry practices in the area of sports law representing professional baseball players as an attorney/agent.

Sherry lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Robert, a high school math teacher and coach. Their personal time is filled with gardening, antique auctions, and travel.
